God påske!

It is a Norwegian tradition to go skiing during the Easter holiday that starts on Wednesday afternoon already. It was kind of strange, I was walking around the city on Thursday and it looked like a ghost town - everything closed, no signs of life on the streets.

But the weather was perfect despite all the negative forecasts so I wanted to enjoy the warm spring day and went riding my bike. Yes, I got a bike from a friend who returned to the States and gave the bike to me. :) Nice, huh?

I just discovered a small path along the fjord that is truly amazing. My short bike ride turned out to be a 3 hours adventure. But who wouldn't want to ride outside when it's warm and you have the rocks and the sea around you? Click on the top picture for the sight.

On Friday it was cloudy, but a friend called me and asked if I wanted to go cross country skiing. Well, never tried THAT one before... :) So we went.

It's amazing, in Stavanger it was spring, but just 1 hour drive away in Sirdal we still had a lot of snow and was quite cold. And because it was Easter, we found a LOT of people, too... Nevertheless we found a parking spot, got on our ski gear and were ready to join the queue. Those of you who tried cross country skiing know that it is really not that difficult in theory. In fact it's much easier than downhill skiing that i did several times before. You just have to catch the rythem and make sure you lean a bit forward otherwise while you push your left foot forward, you end up sliding backwards with your right one - like I did. :) But after a while you can get the feeling and by the end of the day, I was even faster than Claus... (hehe, who complimented me saying "you do it almost like the real Norwegians") Sweet!

We even managed to go up to some hills and were looking forward to sliding down at the end of the day, but again, i had to realize that it is quite different from downhill skiing. For one, your feet (boots) are not attached securly to the ski thus it is quite useless to bend your knees together... you will still continue to speed donwards. I was very fortunate to be able to stop without falling. And just like in comic movies... i managed to fall at the bottom of the slope!!!! :) How stupid is that? Oh well, my knee hurts a bit, but nothing can ruin a perfect day! :)

Ráadásul sokkal egyszerűbb a lesiklásnál.

Something in the air / Valami van a levegőben

Spring is here! No doubt about it! Flowers pop up everywhere and for a few hours each day you can have a walk outside without your jacket. So, Olena and I went for a walk and this is the result. :)

Itt a tavasz! :)

Marcius 15!

WOW! It's been a looooong time! I know. Excuses? No. Pictures? Yes.

March 15 is a Hungarian National Holiday. We celebrate a revolution that took place in 1848. Usually people on this day go to the monuments, public gatherings take place where actors act out the beginning of the revolution and all in all this is a serious holiday. We all supposed to wear a special symbol called Kokárda (see top picture) made out of the tricolor that appears in our national flag.

This year, however I chose to celebrate it differently. :)

Húúúúúúúúúúúúúú, de rég írtam. De most pótolom.

I went to the beach.
To surf.
In the North Sea. ... no comments, just pictures. :)
A strandon.
Szörföltem.
Az Északi-tengerben... no comments, csak képek. :)

Some shots of me getting ready for the craziest idea of my life. The temperature was around 7 Celsius, the wind wasn't too strong, but the water temperature... well, let's not go there - sufficient to say that it was C-O-L-D!

Here you can see the moment the first drops went UNDER the wetsuit!

I never tried surfing before and what seemed like a piece of cake on sand proved to be a HUGE challenge in the water - even though the waves were really small.

That's how far I got. Finally I managed to get myself ONTO the board. The next step should be "standing up".

Nos, idáig jutottam pár óra alatt. Végre sikerült magamat a DESZKÁRA pozicionálni. A következő lépés ugye a "felállni rá" lenne...

And... És...
And... És...
And... És...

I MANAGED! For a second, I was standing. But as you can imagine, the next moment came and i went straight into the water again.

But it was soooooo worth it! I had the best March 15 ever! Yes, I was extremely tired, but not cold!

Budapest

The view that will always make me stand in awe... No matter how much beauty I have seen all around the world, this scene is still number one. If you walk across the Elisabeth Bridge from the Pest side just pass the temple and you can see the Royal Castle and the Chain Bridge in all their glory.

Ice-skating on glass / Korizni tükörjégen

The temperature outside is -10 Celsius. The sun is shining, no clouds to be seen. People are either working or in school so I find myself ALONE on a Friday morning gazing around at the beach of Central Europe's biggest fresh water lake; Balaton (Plattensee).

-10 fok van kint, a nap hétágra süt, felhő sehol. Péntek délelőtt révén a jónép vagy dolgozik, vagy suliban, szóval tökegyedül nézek szép a kenesei strandon. Íme, a Balaton, télen.

The water is entirely frozen; the surface is a bit bumpy at the beginning, but unbelievable smooth as you go deeper. I pass the sign that says "deep water, only for swimmers" and enjoy the sounds. Sometimes the ice layer cracks and the bubbles run around everywhere under the ice thus creating a very unique and scary sound.
Every once in a while I hear a cracking sound under my skate that keeps my adrenalin level high. :) But that's part of the excitement. The water is shallow, worst case scenario I would end up only in a knee-high icy water...
It's fun to look down, you see the sand below you. Sometimes you even see frozen bubbles - they didn't make it to the surface.

Alul látszanak a hullámok a homokban.

Naivete: I thought I knew how to do a ballet on ice... well... here are the stages:
Kis naívan azt gondoltam, tudok balettozni a jégen... íme a fázisok:

And just when I thought I can defeat gravity and show some balance on ice...
But nothing, I said NOTHING can keep me down for too long!

New year - new time / Új év - új idők

Have you ever wanted to turn back time?

I have. After a wrong choice of words that led to a fight, after my accidents, after somebody else won the lottery... :)

I love playing with time. Finally I had the time (isn't it ironic?) to do something I wanted to do for sooo long: To turn it back !

It took me a while to figure out how it works and the first try wasn't successful, but I cannot get easily discouraged. The second attempt proved that it's not impossible, just takes some time. :)

The whole system is reversed, not just the hands and the numbers. It works perfectly fine!

A mutatók is ellenkező irányba járnak.

London

On my way to Hungary from Stavanger I had a short stop in a small town called London. Believe it or not, the flight was cheaper this way. The downside was that I had 26 hours in England between the 2 flights. The upside of the downside is that I could hang out with some friends from the ship. :)

The bus-route from the city to the airport involved a scenic view of the sea and to my great delight a short ferry ride as well. Apparently I cannot avoid sailing. (Not that I want to, mind you!) The ferry was barely moving, but the blonde girl next to me quickly turned green and I really felt sorry for her, but I had to go outside to enjoy the fresh air the waves splashing against the boat (and my camera).

The flight was uneventful and around 5 pm London time I could meet up with a good friend from Aussieland. We caught a bus to downtown, but it was rush hour. Crazy, but true: the bus ride from London-Stansted airport to London-Victoria Station took longer than to fly from Norway to England! We put my big suitcase to a locker and started to discover London at night.

Walking around in Hyde Park in Christmas time was a great idea. It was a bit chilly, yet so many people chose to enjoy the lights, the glühwein, the free ice-ring. I wanted to play tourist for a day so as you can see, I have all the typical pictures. :)

(who can tell me what's wrong with this picture???)

Around 1 am (that was 2 for me) we got to Anne's place and could crash on her bed for some rest. Next day we tried (and failed) to catch an early train to get back to downtown in order to have some sightseeing. Our tour included a free boat ride on the River Thames. The weather was exceptional as you can see. We could take great pictures of the famous old and new buildings of this remarkable city. I even saw the Globe - Shakespeare's famous round theater (see picture below)!

The boat went all the way up to Greenwich, where THE TIME is - as our tour guide put it. I asked him if he could tell me the EXACT time. This was his reply: "It's 12.10 or so."! OR SO???????????????????????? Man, at least in this very city you should be able to tell me the right time. Or at least lie something! Just state it confidently! I thought we might have to go to the tower and check it out for ourselves. 5 minutes before 1 pm the ball goes up on that pole and at 1 pm sharp the ball drops (see picture below). I set my watch so hopefully I will NOT miss my next flight... :)

After the short cruise we got on a double decker to cross the city and experience the traffic jam. It's crazy how narrow the streets are! And of course they drive on the WRONG side. At every pedestrian cross the sign "look right" is painted - I guess for the silly tourists. :) We had a quick stop at the Tower of London and took shots of the Big Ben as well. From the bus I could catch glimpses of the Parliament.

Ever since I knew I have a stop in London I was looking forward to some nice Indian food. So you can imagine my excitement when we went to an Indian / Sri Lankan restaurant for lunch - yummy yummy yummy! :) I had my samosas several times that day and truly enjoyed every bite! Our last stop was the Buckhimgham Palace. I promised somebody to have a friendly chat with prince Charles, but I was only joking. Well, God wasn't! He chose that exact moment to drive away from the palace so we could at least see his car! :)

I had plans to talk at Speakers' Corner and stand on the barrel to let the people know what Christmas is really about, but we didn't have time for that. Oh well, another reason to return... At Victoria Station I collected my luggage and on my way out I saw huge posters saying that Jamie Olivier will sign his latest book there at... NOW! I kinda skipped the line (I didn't want to buy his book, I just wanted to see him) so I entered the shop and true to his word, there he was. I took a quick picture of him and rushed to the airport bus. I barely made it. :)

Of course airport workers are on strike in Hungary when I am flying. :( My flight got delayed and we landed on another airport then planned. Nonetheless my parents got the message and were waiting for me at the right terminal. So after a very eventful day I finally could lay down my head in my old bed around 1 am. I just made it for my grandma's 92th birthday party. I will be the surprise (if only I had some ribbons to wrap it around my head), I just hope she will not have a heart attack when she sees me the next morning...

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Másnap korán reggel terveztünk folytatni a városnézést.

Legalább itt, ebben a városban ne mondjon nekem ilyet!!!

MOST! :)

Természetesen a reptéri dolgozók akkor sztrájkolnak, mikor én repülök.
